Why do I stand out more in the suburbs?

I was born %26amp; raised in New York City and just recently moved to the Rockland, New York. That is a suburb in New York which is not that far from the city. I wear clothes that I like, and HATE labels. Common clothing items include T-shirts, vintage clothing, striped tops, blazers, distressed jeans, waistcoats, ties, cardigans, scarves and aviators. Footwear choices include Nike, Retro Air Jordans, Pumas, Retro Adidas, Converse or other plimsolls, slip-on shoes, etc. I'm kind-of a sneakerhead. Whenever I wear these clothes at school, everyone just looks at me weird %26amp; laugh. But how come when I wear them around NYC, nobody looks at me weird like they do in the suburbs?

Why do I stand out more in the suburbs?
its just the difference between the two environments. like i used to live in NYC but moved to san diego CA and it was totally different. like i know the weather is different but its also just the different style choices like In NY u could wear just about anything and no one would notice or think anything of it but in CA every1 wears a lot of the same thigs so in ur case its just that poeple in rockland must b more average and have their own trends while in the city u had a style of ur own. i love guys who stand out. miss NY guys and all of the diversity their and not being judged by just being urself and wearing what u want :[ u sound like u would b my type. every1 here is all the same. all wear a%26amp;f and hollister and r all cookie cutters of each other

hope this helps :]
Reply:where i live a lot of guys dress like that and i live in the suburbs lol o well you're just more original rather then having abercrombie written across your top. you're probably the most fashionable one haha
Reply:probally thats you
Reply:people in the suburbs hae no class, stick with just jeans and a teeshirt and ditch the waistcoats, ties, cardigans, scarves and aviators.
Reply:bc in the suburbs there isnt many different styles..they r soo used to the same ole same ole. so when they see something that they dont see very often they think its weird. but really u should be laughing at them theyre the ones who arent open minded about things and r lagging in the styling department. and when u do go to the city people are used to it and its the norm to them. so dont worry about what ppl say to u newhere. just be true to urself and dress how u like. i personally like the vintage look and wished more people did too.
Reply:Look at what they're wearing and that should answer your question. Perhaps its not the clothes but the man!
Reply:Same problem here! People raised in suburbs think that normal, cute/hott style is A%26amp;F and Hollister, or Hot Topic pretty much... you know, jeans and polos or w/e. They don't have any like true, high class fashion you know? They get their inspiration from posters in the mall or their fav teen magazine, not who they are

I think it sounds hott! Also theres way more different people in the city, way more culture, ect.
Reply:boy, cuz you in the suburbs! hehe Ignore it, don't change in that way unless you feel like it. I've learned that people will sometimes look up to you for being different (especially if yu're a good person ) and being comfortable with it. Once they realize that you're cool or friendly, they will gravitate towards you.
Reply:more diverse people in the city
Reply:because they aren't used to someone as creative looking as you, be proud, your different!
Reply:I live in the suburbs and I think it sounds hot.

Except for the waistcoat. :)
