So I Dress Emo?

I've gone into my first year in a new middle school, and ,apparently, labels are common in my school. I've been struck with many of them, but the one that constantly comes up is 'emo'. This struck me as odd, as far as I knew, i wasn't a music genre. (Before doing a bit of research, I thought 'emo' was music. Boy was I wrong.) Anyhow, I keep on hearing I look emo, i listen to emo music, and I talk emo. (What the heck? TALK EMO?) Could you please tell me if I am in fact 'emo'? Im not one for labels, but its always good to know.





Clothing:


Rainbow Jacket


Obnoxious Bright Shirts or


Black Shirts with artsy colourful designs


Typically tight, old, messed up, and painted jeans (I got them normal, but after a while they got ruined.)





Hair:

Similar to this, my bands are a bit longer,and my hair is messier and naturally drier. I don't do ANYTHING to my hair.





Shoes:


Converse, Coloured Rainbow, Black, and completely ruined

So I Dress Emo?
yes your what people would call "emo" but don't let that bother you or stop you from trying to be friends with everyone =]

I think that's cool personal style, but it could also be seen as like, the quintessential emo clothing.
Reply:It doesn't sound like it. You seem more punkish than emo to me. If you really want to find out though, just ask yourself if you feel everyone is against you the next time your mom cuts your allowance. If the answer is yes, then your emo.

Reply:Uh well you basically said it all, of course someone would call you emo by the way you dress. The obnoxious shirts and the messed up, painted jeans and the messy dry punkish hair with the messed up, ruined converse basically says emo. I don't really see why you're asking this but if you don't want to be emo then just clean up all the messy old jeans and shoes and hair and don't wear the bright colorful shirts and rainbow jackets...

Jeans=in style at my school! For your hair, you could try getting it layered! You are not emo! Sounds to me like you are "in style".

Reply:Ya I think so. It's alright though. Just don't listen to those kids with those labels. Normally EMO is considered those kids who wear really black clothes or eccentric rainbow bright clothes or both. Skinny jeans are typical EMO clothing staples. And, I'm sorry to say but your hair is tres EMO. It's basically the goth stereotype and the rave stereotype if they had a baby. : )





But, hey, it's just the way you dress. Which doesn't really matter because at heart you could be a hardcore prepster. Hope this helped. Have a good life. : )
