+ Do you have freewill over your childhood?

Can a person's childhood can seriously mess you up? And if you can't choose how pleasent your childhood will be, are you still liable for the adult you will become? Imagine being in the shoes of serial killer oa a pederast. You have no control over your conscious because you have no self-esteem.

The Green River Killer pissed his bed as a teenager, was constantly humiliated by his mother. His childhood turned him into a hateful misogynist. Adolf Hitler grew up a street waif, had such a fragile ego that he had to control the world to feel in control of himself. People who commit horrendous acts are mentally sick. Is it right to ignore their childhood and label them evil?

+ Do you have freewill over your childhood?
I was unaware of the histories of the criminal minds that you have mentioned. I believe that as an adult you have choices to make, and you shouldn't allow your childhood to decide your actions in adulthood. Each person should have enough self-control to over-come the desire to harm another.

However, this question may be better asked in the psychology section. If child abuse can be serious enough to cause further criminal activity that is outside of the control of the criminal, then it would become a societal issue. We all must take an active role in preventing further child abuse.
Reply:A person can have challenges to overcome that are too great and conquer the person instead. Fair or not, we expect adults to be responsible for their actions despite the mental/emotional damage that they might struggle with daily. That person could have, and still can, decided to be better than what he would normally have been as merely the product of his past. It takes time and effort to reprogram youself to overcome your past. This is the nature of Grace. Showing forgiveness and compassion even when it has never been shown to you.
Reply:What's past is past. New beginnings are NOW, in the present moment. Everyone, even the abused child, has choices to make and knows that he must live with the consequences of those choices. Yes, we can call these people evil. Someone else in the same circumstances would not have made all the same exact choices. Today, the world is full of people who do not feel accountable or responsible - let's not make things even worse by letting them off the hook because of their miserable childhood. Lots of folks had miserable childhoods, but turned out to be better people.
