How large does women's clothing run in Japan?

I%26#039;m going to Japan in a few weeks and I%26#039;d like to do some clothes shopping while I%26#039;m there. I%26#039;d like to go to the young, trendy shops, but I don%26#039;t know if they%26#039;ll have clothes that fit. I%26#039;m a size 8-10, and 5%26quot;7 with a C cup; will I be able to find clothes at trendy Japanese shops, or even at Japanese department stores (that aren%26#039;t American labels, I didn%26#039;t go all the way to Japan for that)? Or will I have to go specifically to a plus size place, which would hurt my ego since I%26#039;ve never done that in the US and which probably wouldn%26#039;t have a great selection. Also, I wear a 7 1/2 shoe size, I should be able to find shoes easily, right?

How large does women%26#039;s clothing run in Japan?
shoes- you%26#039;d be a size 24.5 or 25 (its in centimeters)

and thats the biggest size that most shops make shoes in...its ridiculous!! whenever i go, im always at the %26quot;big shoes%26quot; corner since im also a 7.5 too.

clothing- ok, im a size 2 or 4, s or m at the abercrombie here. but over there, i once did not fit into an XL pair of pants. im a size 9 there (9 is the standard in Japan. the next is size 11, one size smaller is a 7, and those are the only 3 sizes they usually have a department stores) for tops. as for bottoms, lets just say that the XL pair was tiny. i just forget about the pants when i go there. plus, they dont have the best jeans anyway. the proportion just does not fit. its mostly their tops.

they also have the cutest bras. they will have sizes for everyone. theyre extremely lacy and colorful.

btw...

dont feel bad if some of the clothes run in only small sizes. if you look at them, japanese people all have the same body type. half of the stuff i try on usually do not fit right. (too short, too small, too thin)

and they make the cutest shoes and theyre really easy to walk in since japanese people walk everywhere.

and im 5%26#039;5 if that helps.

what to get:

shoes

bags (wallets too)

accessories- rings, necklaces, watches, etc.

tops

socks %26amp; bras (usually sold in the same store)

keychains

sun dresses

what not to get:

pants

formal dresses (800 dollars ea)

what to try:

they have amazing crepes in harajuku (are you going there?)

spagetti

pet clothing

hope this helps

if you want me to add stuff, just write it in your question description and i%26#039;ll check back
Reply:Im 5%26#039;6%26quot; and 49 kilos, but im curvy. I dont think youll have much trouble with sizes, as even the smallest sizes here are usually too big for me. So I dont think the sizes will be too small for you. The problem is the proportions of the clothes, as other posters mentioned. So just try things on, eventually you will find some cool stuff! For every 20 things I try on, 1 of them usually fits well!

For shoes you are the largest size available- lucky you! I cant buy shoes here as I am size 8 shoe which is rarely available.

Best places are Harajuku and Omotesando for shopping-- enjoy!
Reply:Like the other two replies I have also had experience shopping in Japan.

You will be able to find some clothes that will fit you as I am bigger then you and have had some luck in the last 2 years living here.

Just to give you some reference here is a size chart I came upon.

Shirts/Blouses:

Japan Size 7 9 11 13 15 - -

US Size 4 6 8 10 12 14 16

S,M,L,LL(XL) are usually are the other sizes for the shirts.. Usually go up to sizes. So if you usually wear a M you would get a L or LL. *All depends on the cut/make of the shirt.. Always try things on you might be surprised!!

Shoes

Japan 22 22.5 23 23.5 24 24.5 25

USA 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9

As for pants most of the time they use waist/length measurments in cm so if you know your size that will help.

My advice to you is to ignore the size tag and just try things on you never know something that looks like it will fit doesnt and vice versa.

Just remember the Japanese body frame is very different from that of westerners body so if you cant find anything do not get discourage or depress. Keep your head up.

If you want some cool T-Shirts with cute designs for cheap try Uni-Glo also they carry more American friendly sizes.

Have fun. Recycle shops are great too to find various sizes and cool shirts!
Reply:From my years of living in Yokohama, outside of tokyo, I can tell you that bras will not be plentiful for you.

I am 5%26#039;4%26quot;, size 6 - 8 and 7.5 Us shoe size. 36C bra

Shoes are no problem. Pants and skirts are pushing it.

things in the %26quot;older woman%26quot; shop often fit me but are not trendy..

Even when I find things that fit the waist/butt area, the proportions are all wrong.

Japanese people tend to have shorter legs and longer torsos.

If you are long legged... forgot it.

I shopped a lot of Tokyo and I can%26#039;t think of one trendy, plus-size store??? Did someone tell you about one?

It is not common here.

You will find foreign labels that fit you, but as you said, you are not coming all the way to Japan to buy those, right?
Reply:clothes don%26#039;t run !

even in Computerized Japan
