What is the average 10 and 11 year old into???

Our son is going to be 11 soon. He has autism. My husband gets very frustrated because tonight, we went birthday shopping for our soon-to-be 1 year old and our son picked out a dinosaur for himself with money he earned from doing his chores. I said to let him have it, he earned it and he wanted it. The problem was that the dinosaur was labeled for ages 3+. Still, our son%26#039;s main interest is dinosaurs and paleontology.

What do your 10 and 11 year olds do and what is their favorite toys?

Our son has no coordination, riding a bike he cannot do yet. He is not yet tying his shoes- fine motor control though we have been teaching him since he was 4! It is normal etc. and I accept it but my husband has an issue.

As a teacher- I do whatever goes in my home as far as toys and education. Our son has saturated himself in science and dinosaurs.

I do wonder- what sorts of things the average 10 and 11 year olds are playing with since our son%26#039;s birthday is coming up in a few short weeks

What is the average 10 and 11 year old into???
When it says age 3+ that just means that it isn%26#039;t safe for under age 3. I think a dinosaur for his age is just fine. My 10 year old daughter loves playing with Webkins, they are a stuffed animal that is linked with a websight that you can play games on. She loves other stuffed animals too. And littlest pet shop. My just turned 12 son likes Star Wars toys, Leggos, Video games, skateboarding, riding bicycles and playing sports. They both also like board games and card games. Good luck with your son, it sounds to me like he is doing great. Encourage those dinosaurs!
Reply:I think kids these days are really into computers and video games. I would much rather have my son playing with a toy dinosaur than that crap anyday. I had barbies when I was ten and they also said three and up on the box. It just says that so younger children won%26#039;t choke on the small parts. I have a cousin with autism. He is five and is starting kindergarten next week. He really likes barney and tv. He is obsessed with the television, and I think his parents would be happier if he were interested in dinousaurs instead. I see my aunt and uncle struggle with their marriage since my cousin was born. Just try to let what he said slide. I%26#039;m sure it%26#039;s just hard for him feeling like your son is different. Tell him being different isn%26#039;t always a bad thing, I say that to my husband all the time.
Reply:I have an 11 year old son. The biggest thing he and his friends are into are video games. Wrestling, and baseball, I bet your son would love wrestling.

Legos and Bionicles are big. Since he has good fine motor skills that one sounds like a good idea too. I think lego%26#039;s even has dinosaur sets.

OH how could I forget Webkinz, those stuffed animals that you can go on the computer and play games with, they are big also.
Reply:Video games and nintendos. This might sound a little weird. We have friend with a son with autism that loves making things with playdough. He is a teenager now but still fiddles with playdough-non toxic.,
