For those telling others to take medication or what 'mental disorder' they have...?

Antidepressants have been proven to be ineffective:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/726349...

Yet they make 1 in 30 patients attempt suicide. Several families of murder victims were paid to keep quiet:

Other drugs are just as bad. People somehow forget that medication is a drug. Ritalin for example is a Class B narcotic. Valium is Class C.

A DSM-IV diagnosis is not a disease. It does not tell you what is wrong with you. It%26#039;s just a label for your symptoms.

Some people collect these labels like they collect shoes. But we all have our own unique problems and these labels are useless or worse. You can face your demons but how do you overcome a disorder?

Being a teenager is tough. Drugging yourself or identifying with some diagnosis will probably make life even tougher.

Learning how your mind works won%26#039;t just help you solve your problems but it will help you to be happy and successful.

For those telling others to take medication or what %26#039;mental disorder%26#039; they have...?
Is there a question in there somewhere ???
Reply:interesting , so was that a question ? or was it a statement,?

and how are you dealing with your PERSONAL LABELS ?

are you coping with out ur tablets now,? and what was it that brought your depression on?

and remember 29 out of 30 dont end it .?????????.......... half empty or half full springs to mind.

SO what s the secret formula bud, email me if u wish. thanx 4 the 2 points and godluck %
Reply:better to be taking Antidepressants than self medicating with illegal drugs and alcohol. SSRI are used to help seretonin get across to the other neurons, it stops the neurotransmitter (seretonin) being held in one neuron and not synapsing to the others.... helps us feel stuff and things.... yeah
Reply:ok so if 1 in 30 people on antidepressants commit suicide, how many do you reckon would commit suicide if they weren%26#039;t on the meds? i can assure you it would be a hell of a lot more.

people rely on this medication, many wouldn%26#039;t be able to survive without it. learning how your mind works WILL NOT always help. some of the problems people have can%26#039;t be helped.

and many people%26#039;s lives have been saved by antidepressants, so most ARE effective.
Reply:Well - I%26#039;ve read through your posting - BUT YOU FORGOT TO ASK A QUESTION - or perhaps there%26#039;s a name for that.
Reply:who do you think you are

i know for a fact that if i wasnt on the medicines i was on for 4 years i would not be here now

if you ever suffer from a mental illness yoursel i would love to see if you manage to get through it with out medicines, sometimes i wish people who think that people dont need medicines could just have for example 1 panic attack, see how they cope, i had 1 panic attack that lasted 3 days non stop

see if you could cope with that
Reply:SOME antidepressants have been proven to be ineffective not all of them.
Reply:you haven%26#039;t a clue what you are talking about i have bipolar and my meds are excellent and have levelled me out please if you haven%26#039;t got a mental illness or any thing intelligent or good to say shut the f**k up and go back to infants/kinder garden which is at your level now and let the adult talk or may be you have a mental illness and don%26#039;t know it yet if you do i hope its a bad one but then again i hope you don%26#039;t have one cos mine has ruined my life so just shut-up child and go back to your tellytuby program and oh yes I%26#039;m pissed of and offended by this question

antidepresants have found to be affective in the more servere cases which is good
Reply:This isn%26#039;t a question, it%26#039;s a lecture - a poor one at that.
Reply:The BBC or CNN is the same as an Agatha Christie novel: it%26#039;s fiction.
Reply:Wow - doesn%26#039;t this stir up some strong opinions!

La maestra - the idea that having mental health problems makes someone unsuitable to work with others is very outdated! Would you say someone was unsuitable to be a nurse because they have diabetes or asthma? A person%26#039;s ability to do a job depends on their skills, aptitudes and abilities, not on what illness they have or don%26#039;t have.

I would not condemn medication out of hand because I have seen many people who were totally off the planet stabilised and able to rebuild their lives. But I am concerned that generally we are rather over dependent on the idea that a pill from the doc can fix everything and the hard truth is it can%26#039;t. During my career I have seen people who have persistently disabling symptoms which don%26#039;t respond to medication.

People also are too quick to rush to the doc when they have life issues which would be much better dealt with by talking to somebody. It is all too easy to get caught up on the medical merry go round in mental health.
Reply:Have you ever experienced living with a child who has ADHD,my sons medication is so important to him, its helped his so much, He has a condition and its got nothing to do with learning how the mind works. We only give him his meds for school use never on holidays or weekends, it helps him concentrate, your ideas on the fact that these drugs are bad is delusional, walk in the shoes of many people who need these drugs to help make them better, there will always be an abuse of drugs by certain people, but don%26#039;t put us all in the same boat.My son is a happy 14 year old, who is doing well, not just because of the medication but good support and help from the professionals and from us as good parents, i understand what you are saying and that%26#039;s your opinion but work with lots of people who have problems and I%26#039;m sure your views will change. re. your comment on taking meds to make school bearable is not really funny, or something to joke about, my son doesn%26#039;t take them because school is awful, its to help him concentrate so he can learn, they work very well, i don%26#039;t understand why you have this attitude towards a drug that works very well for my son, i think you need to do your training again and ask the real people that matter if drugs work or not, what is this world coming to.Call yourself a professional.
Reply:I am a provisionally licensed mental health practitioner and alcohol and drug addiction counselor. I am also Bipolar II. What are your credentials?

You seem to be of the not so popular opinion that psychiatry is a conspiracy.
Reply:Um, those studies showed that antidepressants _are better_ than placebo, but not better enough compared to arbitrary threshold,

Please now tells us all your alternative remedies shown to be better than placebo!
Reply:CANT Believe what im reading- la Maestra your lack of empathy, intelligence and oh need i go on is shocking- im a 1st year student doind my BSc in Counselling i have borderline personality disorder, before this i have worked with children for 15 years as a nursery teacher ,nanny, and maternity nurse in 3 continents,DO YOU THINK WERE MONSTERS ??? no were human!! and most people that go into these types of proffesions have had various life experiences perhaps emotional, physical abuse depression, bereavements, mental health problems and valuable life experience which ENANABLE them to have an understanding of how others may feel and be empatic towards them a job you would be highly un likely to do!!!

AS FOR this question welll its not one ARE YOU BORED ??????
Reply:9 months ago my teenage son was diagnosed with clinical depression due to an imbalance of hormones also the loss of two close members of our family, he was at a stage in his life when he had a lot of pressure due to exams, with the help of a fantastic doctor and psychiatrists they were able to get him through a very tough and sad time of his life. many people would be able to cope unfortunately he couldn%26#039;t, we owe his life to these doctors and medication as he was on the brink of doing something irreversible, he now is slowly coming off this medication and looking forward to going to a music college,These professionals don%26#039;t hand out tablets like sweets and the medication doesn%26#039;t make you as high as a kite. they are highly qualified and know who needs these drugs and who doesn%26#039;t. The reason that some people has many different types of medication is that it takes a while for the medication to work (up to 6 weeks) and may not suit the individual.
Reply:Who are you? Tom Cruise??!?!?! Judging from your %26quot;lecture%26quot; I take it you dont have any of these %26quot;labels%26quot; right? Or maybe some doctor tried to help you at one point and you decided he/she wasnt qualified to do that? Just a guess! I embrace my labels, my antidepressants, and my shoes thank you! Educate yourself..........seriously....
Reply:Does anyone else think it%26#039;s weird that the first girl is Bipolar and a mental health practitioner and counselor?
Reply:of course, you are right.

all the teachers who required their students to be on Ritalin, or they could not attend school, learned you were right when they went to jail for practicing medicine without a license.

docs get big, fat, juicy bonuses from drug companies for pumping people full of these drugs. mind altering substances like xannax, do not treat a condition, it has the same effect as alcohol. when you are on the drug, you are too busy drooling on yourself ,to kill yourself.

prozac, makes you a zombie.

every time someone tells me i am wrong, i tell them what drug they are on. it shows.

take the bottle of xannax away from a person, they will panic. they get you addicted to it, so they can sell you more.

if you and i are wrong, why do behaviorists exist ?
